CAPABILITIES OF SOFTWARE PACKAGES FOR SEGMENTATION OF TOMOGRAMS OF BRAIN AND TISSUE QUANTITATIVE ASSESSMENT

Abstract. The article considers the objectives of medical images segmentation, the methods of the identification of homogeneous areas, and analyzes the features of specialized software packages. The segmentation of white and gray matter of the brain for model and experimental images is made, sensitivity and selectivity are calculated. It is shown that the best result in automatic segmentation is achieved in the case of model images; for experimental data accuracy is determined by images noisiness, signal heterogeneity and contrast range.
