METAPHORICAL TWO-STEP EPITHET AND METHODS FOR ITS TRANSLATION FROM ENGLISH INTO RUSSIAN

Abstract. The author reveals the notion of two-stage epithet within the framework of paradigmatic semasiology as well as the methods for its translation from English into Russian, uses epithets selected from the works of classical English literature as the material for the analysis, shows whether metaphoric relations in the structure of epithet remain when it is translated into Russian, and describes the completed methods for structural-semantic transformation, obtained expressive result and the stylistic effect achieved in the course of the translation.
