SYNTAGMA IN LINGUISTIC DOCTRINE BY L. V. SHCHERBA

Abstract. The author presents the views of academician L. V. Shcherba on syntagma. L. V. Shcherba called the simplest phonetic structural-semantic unity at speech flow division as syntagma. Subsequently syntagma was defined as the original undifferentiated syntactic structure that arises in the human mind in speech generation and is the basis for its perception. The author pays special attention to the evolution of scientist’s views on syntagma.
