EXPRESSIVE PROPERTIES OF CLEFT SENTENCES IN THE MODERN ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Abstract. The author considers the various types of cleft sentences, studies the expressive properties of these structures, determines their grammatical status, refers cleft sentences to the expressive structures, i.e. statements able to stand out in the speech chain, and thus strengthen the pragmatic impact on the recipient; and pays particular attention to the consideration of such notions as expressiveness, emotiveness, and grammatical structure.
