M. BULGAKOV’S PLAY "DON QUIXOTE" IN THE LIGHT OF I. TURGENEV’S ARTICLE "HAMLET AND DON QUIXOTE"

Abstract. The author analyzes the play "Don Quixote" by M. Bulgakov in the context of Don Quixote tradition established in the article "Hamlet and Don Quixote" by I. Turgenev in 1860. Bulgakov implemented the tradition mastering in the tragicomic parody image of heroic romantic Don Quixote, synthesizing the features of Turgenev’s ironist-thinker Hamlet and hero-enthusiast Don Quixote. Turgenev’s myth of Don Quixote is represented in the play as "somebody else’s word" embedded by a playwright in the play, and which was permanent in dialogic relationship with author’s word.
