Abstract. The author considers the major milestones of M. I. Galanin’s biography and creative career, presents the life of Trans-Ural writer-Old Believer of the XVIII th century as a model of stoic service to the "true" faith, and analyzes the works created by the writer within the framework of Old Believers’ mentality and preceding literary tradition.
