BIBLICAL TRANSLATION IN RUSSIA: "ARCHAISTS" AND "MODERNIZERS"

Abstract. The authors consider some aspects related to the history of translating the Bible into the Russian language, and mention that the status of Church Slavonic version played the most important role in the development of the Bible translation principles in Russia, and it was actually (although not formally) approved as an officially recognized text of the Russian Orthodox Church and it is still used in liturgical practice. In this regard, when creating the Russian Bible one inevitably puts the question of the extent of its "slavonification" that conditions the presence of both "archaizing" and "modernizing" tendencies in various translations.
