METHAPHORICS OF ELEMENTS IN "BEOWULF"

Abstract. This article is devoted to the metaphorics of the elements of water and fire in "Beowulf", the Anglo-Saxon epic poem, the action of which takes place in Scandinavia in the III-IV centuries A.D. Although in the text of "Beowulf" metaphors do not occur very often, they are still present there, and in the metaphorics of the poem the metaphors associated with the elements of water and fire undoubtedly play the leading role.
