WAYS OF CREATING DISCOURSE OF MODERNISM (BY THE MATERIAL OF S. BECKETT’S STORIES)

Abstract. The article considers the ways of creating the discourse of modernism by the example of one of the stories of Samuel Beckett’s early collection "More Pricks than Kicks". The role of a metaphor in the creation of a symbolic space as the reflection of the hero’s inner state is studied along with such techniques as a stream of consciousness, an address to the intertext, hyper-successfulness or non-successfulness of speech acts. The manifestation of hidden metaphorical associations is considered as a key to understanding the problems encrypted by the writer and the fears of the hero.
