Abstract. The article examines the peculiarities of a symbol as a prototext type. At the same time by the prototext the irrational object is understood, capable of becoming the incentive for the creation of the materially embodied texts. Comparing symbol with other types of prototexts, the author shows that a symbolic prototext, in view of the relativity of the symbol semantics, allows reflecting non subject relations to the mind, and also expressing the emotional feeling of the world features which is beyond one’s comprehension.
