UNIVERSAL AND NATIONAL AND CULTURAL PECULIARITIES OF SOUND IMITATIONS

Abstract. The article examines the debatable issues of distinguishing sound imitations and interjections, provides comparative analysis of sound imitations of the Russian, Kalmyk, Mongolian, Chinese and English languages. The author concludes that conventional nature of literal arrangement of the acoustic picture of the world is conditioned by the possibilities of a certain language system, specifics of mentality of the bearers, living conditions and conditions of economic activity, habitat. Sound imitations, possessing universal characteristics, fix in their image nationally specific features of the national consciousness.
