DIRECT AND INDIRECT WAYS OF EXPRESSING A SPEECH ACT OF REQUEST IN FRENCH

Abstract. The article is devoted to the systematization of the direct and indirect ways of arranging the speech act of request in the French language. The paper carries out the analysis of the semantic and pragmatic features of the speech act of request as a representative of directive speech acts. In addition to the description of this speech act and highlighting its features, the author concludes that in the process of the implementation of the speech act of request adherence to the principle of courtesy is necessary for both the speaker and the addressee. Examples from literature illustrate the author’s conclusions.
