SEMANTIC-PRAGMATIC ANALYSIS OF LEXICAL DYSPHEMISMS IN CONTEMPORARY ENGLISH

Abstract. This article deals with semantic-pragmatic analysis of lexical dysphemisms in contemporary English. The study is based on the analysis of the examples of dysphemisms use in newspaper-journalistic discourse for the expression of negative evaluation, disapproval or neglect in relation to the addressee of the message. The results of the conducted research confirm the thesis of the primary function of dysphemisms - a damaging one, which is most brightly shown in the author's interpretation of events in mass media texts.
