Abstract. The article is devoted to the analysis of onomastic space of the Russian army. By the material of the names of military equipment and armament the author singles out the fields of onymic vocabulary which form the onomastic space in the aggregate. The principles according to which the new models of weapons obtain the official and unofficial names (people’s nicknames) are identified. The aims of naming different types of equipment and weapons are considered, the large role of euphemization in this process is noted.
