Abstract. The article examines the history of publication of the first novel by Mark Twain "The Gilded Age: A Tale of Today", edited in Russia in the magazine "Patriotic Notes" in the translation by M. K. Tsebrikova, a well-known literary critic, publicist and public figure of Russia of the second half of the XIX century. "The Gilded Age: a Tale of Today" is the first significant success of Mark Twain as a novelist. The writer exposes explicitly a corruptive policy of America of the described period. The success of "The Gilded Age: a Tale of Today" in Russia is confirmed by numerous republications of the novel.
