PIANO: THE VICTORIAN IMAGE-SYMBOL IN NEO-VICTORIAN CONSCIOUSNESS (BY THE MATERIAL OF THE FILM "THE PIANO" BY J. CAMPION)

Abstract. In the article the image of piano as one of Victorian images-symbols in neo-Victorian art is considered, the place of the piano image in the system of images in J. Campion’s film "The Piano" is identified. As a result of the research the author concludes that the piano image in J. Campion’s film performs at least three functions: it causes association with the English way of life in the XIX century, it is of interest for neo-Victorian consciousness as one of the elements of the Victorian value system ??and it takes the key position in the system of the film images.
