STYLISTIC FUNCTIONS OF ALLUSIVE REPRESENTATIVES IN FICTION TEXT

Abstract. The article aims to describe the stylistic potential of allusive elements by the material of modern English fiction. The author presents a brief theoretical survey of the basic studies in this sphere in domestic and foreign linguistics, identifies the main stylistic functions implemented by intertextual elements. The provisions are illustrated by English examples from the fiction by the American writer of the beginning of the XXI century R. N. Mitra. The paper also introduces a classification of the identified allusions in the writer’s creative work.
