LANGUAGE AND LITERARY METAPHORS. SPECIFICITY OF METAPHOR FUNCTIONING IN LITERARY TEXT

Shavaeva Fatima Yakubovna
Pyatigorsk State Linguistic University

Abstract. The article reveals two alternative views on metaphor: language and literary, which are interpreted by researchers either in opposition to one another or in mutual unity. The author pays special attention to the notion of metaphor as a means of expressing writer’s literary thought, and in support of this idea the examples, taken from Kurt Vonnegut’s work "Mother Night", are quoted. Further in the article the author considers the metaphor with the morphological and stylistic points of view, and underlines the specificity of its functioning in a literary text.
