Abstract. In this paper the authors consider the black humor - its manifestation in the contemporary American literature. After studying the theoretical material on the topic the authors carry out an analysis of the examples from the novel by the popular American writer Chuck Palahniuk "Fight Club", in which there is the black humour. The analysis results indicate the negative attitude of the author to his contemporaries expressed through negatively coloured tropes. From the lexical point of view a combination of semantically incongruous language units and the use of sub-colloquial vocabulary are marked.
Key words and phrases: юмор, черный юмор, антифразис, антитеза, нарушение лексической сочетаемости, тропы с негативной оценкой, humour, black humour, antiphrasis, antithesis, violation of lexical compatibility, tropes with negative evaluation
