ETYMOLOGICAL STRATIFICATION AND FUNCTIONING OF THE LEXICO-SEMANTIC GROUP "POWER" IN THE GOTHIC LANGUAGE

Fed'ko Mariya Viktorovna
Lomonosov Moscow State University

Abstract. The article provides an analysis of the lexico-semantic group (LSG) "power" in the Gothic language using etymological and onomasiological approaches. The paper examines the Indo-European bases by which the words of the lexico-semantic group "power" were formed, which allows identifying the archaism of the affiliated lexemes. To analyze the words the author also applies to the theory of nomination and internal form theory with a view to discover the conceptions of power on which the nomination is based. Such analysis based on the different approaches also allows identifying the developmental specifics of the lexico-semantic group under study.
Key words and phrases: лексико-семантическая группа, теория номинации, внутренняя форма, мотивированность номинации, этимологическая стратификация, lexico-semantic group, theory of nomination, internal form, motivation of nomination, etymological stratification
