WAYS OF MARKING THE BRITISH-AMERICAN LANGUAGE VARIABILITY IN S. FRY’S NOVEL "MAKING HISTORY"

Abstract. In this article the aim is to identify the linguistic methods to mark the British-American language variability in S. Fry's novel "Making History". The analysis shows a number of means of marking variant differences at the level of vocabulary, phrase, sentence, functional parts of speech, spelling: in particular, the inclusion of regional vocabulary; variation of simple and complex syntax; transcription of pronunciation. The regional differences used by the author mainly correspond with the differences identified in the data of the corpuses.
