Abstract. The article describes the mechanism of the functional transposition of Russian verbs in the 3rd person singular into the category of introductory-modal words and phrases with the semantics of logical and/or emotional evaluation. The paper determines the typical subjective-modal meanings of the modal words formed from verbs (persuasiveness, evidentiality, logical and/or emotional evaluation of reported information, evaluation of the way of the language expression of thought, degree of commonness of a situation and so on). The authors outline the main steps and the modalation limit of finite verbs in the 3rd person singular. The article also gives examples of the interaction of verbs with conjunctions and particles in the syncretical contexts of modalation and particulation/conjunctionalization.
Key words and phrases: русский язык, грамматика, транспозиция, глагол, модаляция, партикуляция, конъюнкционализация, синкретизм, Russian language, grammar, transposition, verb, modalation, particulation, conjunctionalization, syncretism
