Abstract. The theme of Russisms in the language of the German prisoners of war has not been fully investigated in the Russian linguistics yet. This article considers Russisms in the language of the German prisoners of war and describes the historical background of their appearance. A lot of German prisoners of war could understand Russian to some extent and, as a result, some Russisms appeared in their language. The majority of the borrowings under study reflected everyday life in the prison camp, they were fragmental inclusions from the Russian language and are not practically used in the modern German language.
