Borisova Yuliya Mikhailovna
The Institute for Humanities Research and Indigenous Studies of the North of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences

Abstract. The article deals with the names of animal-drawn vehicles and their parts in the Yakut language from the perspective of the term formation. Terminology of animal-drawn transport as a separate thematic group in the Yakut linguistics has not been subjected to the comprehensive study yet. Linguistic data show that draught animals as a kind of animal-drawn transport have been used by the Sakha people since ancient times. The data from translation, monolingual, and illustrated dictionaries of the Yakut language are used as the sources of the research material. The vocabulary of animal-drawn transport makes up the original stratum of the vocabulary of the Yakut language, the research of which is of scientific interest since it represents the history and ethnography of the Sakha people.
