REGARDING THE INSTRUMENTAL CASE IN THE OLD UYGHUR

Perednya Aleksandra Dmitrievna
Saint Petersburg University

Abstract. This article focuses on the development of the instrumental case in the Turkic languages. The emphasis was made on the study of the case system in the Old Uyghur, including the distinction between the -(y)n form as the indicator of the instrumental case and the ((-y?), (- ny), -y(n)) form as the indicator of the accusative case. As a result the author of the research was able to determine the function and the meaning of the instrumental case. The function of the instrumental case is to represent the material or accomplice with which or with whom the action is produced. Thus this case has the "instrumental" meaning.
