Arekeeva Svetlana Timofeevna, Fedorova Lyubov' Petrovna
Udmurt State University

Abstract. The article analyzes the short story texts of the Udmurt writers of the 20s of the XX century, united by the war theme. The authors prove that the events of the World War I are interpreted differently in the works by A. Denisov and D. Bazhenov. In the autobiographical story "As I Escaped from Captivity" by A. Denisov, the participant and witness of events, the war is presented in the tragic aspect; in the story by D. Bazhenov "We", in which the technique of soldiers’ recollections is used, the tragicomic story line is realized.
