METAPHOR AND METONYMY AS THE SOURCES OF CREATING THE FIGURATIVENESS OF ENGLISH PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS-ANTROPONOMINANTS

Abstract. The article sets the goal to examine a phraseological image of evaluative names of persons as a result of complex processes of reinterpretation. The author focuses on the essence of the process of phraseologization which is closely connected with the semantic transformation of initial phrases into units of a new quality with a complete figurative sense. The article illustrates a special productive role of metaphorical and metonymic transfers in enriching language stock. Therefore the phraseological image, which is directly reflected in the actual meaning of a phraseological unit-antroponominant, promotes structuring the fragments of the linguistic world-view connected with the new figurative perception of the known objects and phenomena of surrounding reality.
