COLOUR CHARACTERISTICS OF THE AVAR TOPONYMICAL SPACE

Abstract. The article considers colour characteristics of geographical names as the important elements of the Avar toponymics. The authors analyze different views on the nature of a toponym colour element, evaluate the role of colour characteristics in the process of forming the Avar toponymical worldview, and identify the peculiarities of formation and functioning of toponyms with a colour component. The paper concludes on objective representation of spatial features in toponyms and on idio-ethnic specificity of colour representation in the national language.
