THE MOTIF OF HERO’S MIRACULOUS BIRTH IN THE TEXTS OF THE OLONKHO OF THE VILYUYSK REGION

Institute for Humanities Research and Indigenous Studies of the North of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences

Abstract. The article deals with the motif of the main character’s miraculous birth in the Yakut olonkho of the Vilyuysk region. The most common plot motif in this region is "elderly parents give birth to an epic hero". This motif is closely related to the ritual of asking the sacred tree for the child’s soul. The motif "miraculous rebirth" of the epic hero is characteristic of the Vilyuysk tradition, the elements of which are in touch with the shamanistic actions concerning "rebirth" of a gifted person - a shaman.
