LINGUO-CULTUROLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF SANTIAGO DE CHILE HODONYMS

Bobyleva Elena Sergeevna
Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, Moscow

Abstract. The article reveals the meaning of the notions "urbonym" and "hodonym". The author examines Santiago de Chile street names, shows the changes occurred in city’s onomastic space in the different historical periods and introduces lexical-semantic classification of hodonyms. The paper justifies the importance of studying toponyms for linguistics, history and society in general. Linguo-culturological analysis of Santiago de Chile hodonyms indicates that the majority of them are characterized by frequent renewal conditioned by extra-linguistic factors, existence of variants (official/unofficial), similarity of functions, fixation in written form.
Key words and phrases: годонимы, урбанонимы, городская топонимика, Чили, лингвокультурологический анализ, hodonyms, urbonyms, urban toponymics, Chile, linguo-culturological analysis
