Abstract. The article is devoted to studying a regret phenomenon from the viewpoint of cognitive and semantic approaches. The paper provides an overview of the regret phenomenon in the linguistic consciousness, describes cognitive models to represent regret in the English linguistic worldview. The authors identify syntactic models to verbalize the regret phenomenon focusing on grammatical constructions with infinitive and gerund.
