TYPICAL MISTAKES WHEN USING ENGLISH PHRASAL VERBS

Abstract. The article describes typical mistakes made by students when learning English phrasal verbs. It also focuses on the analysis of the linguistic and psychological reasons of the most common mistakes. In the methods of teaching English phrasal verbs the authors suggests considering the cognitive processes underlying the development of the polysemy of phrasal verbs. The paper examines a cognitive approach to the study of the semantics of phrasal verbs by the example of the derivational model V + down .
