"AS IF THE STONE CRAVED FOR ANOTHER BEING": ABOUT ONE PARADIGM-FORMING MOTIVE OF MANDELSTAM’S POETICS

Abstract. The article analyzes the central lexeme of the creative work of one of the three "reference" representatives of acmeism - Osip Mandelstam - a stone. This is due not only to the frequency of the use of this image, but to its semantic status. The substance of the stone in the space of creative work undergoes mythological metamorphosis: it is like a word, an organism, faith, a person; acquires a two-hypostatic nature (in the opposition: raw material is a work of art). The movement of the semantic paradigm of the analyzed motive as the most important figurative component of Mandelstam’s worldview makes it possible to conclude that the semantic nature of the stone is ambivalent.
Key words and phrases: мотив камня, поэтическая семантика, парадигма, амбивалентность, метаморфозы, stone motive, poetic semantics, paradigm, ambivalence, metamorphosis
