THE SPEECH-INFLUENCING FUNCTION OF BRITISH POLITICIANS’ STATEMENTS: ARGUMENTATIVE-STRATEGIC APPROACH

Abstract. The article deals with the degree of speech influence of the statements of British politicians from the point of view of the argumentative-strategic approach by the material of political debates on specific problems. Speech influence is considered from the perspective of the intensity category. In this regard, the author singles out the speech strategies and tactics as well as the argumentative structures within which various means of expressing intensity have been used by British politicians. By revealing the persuasiveness of the statements through the achievement of the strategies of participants with the help of specific argumentative structures and intensives, the speech-influencing function of the debates being analyzed is identified.
