DYSTOPIAN TENDENCIES IN T. N. TOLSTAYA’S NOVEL "KYS"

Abstract. The article analyzes the genre features of T. N. Tolstaya’s novel "Kys". The ideological and purely artistic aspects of the notion "anti-utopia" are singled out; the question is raised whether the novel can be attributed to this genre. Since the very possibility of creating a full anti-utopian conception in the era of postmodern has been called into question, alternative genre definitions of "Kys", such as "dystopia", "cacotopia" and "post-utopia" are also considered. The latter seem to be the most preferable: Tolstaya uses the anti-utopian strategy in the text of the novel, but on the whole finds herself beyond the rigid opposition between utopia and its genre antipodes.
