Abstract. The article deals with the notion "dialect", the main language levels of dialects and the modern approach to their classification within the framework of national linguistic geography. This branch of scientific knowledge passes an important stage of arrangement as an independent scientific direction, including such important disciplines as dialectology, linguistic contactology and variantology. The dialect, both territorial and social, is a kind of the language subordinate to the linguistic literary form. The dialect vocabulary is the most significant feature, because it is highly variable, difficult to interpret and affects the overall perception of the utterance.
Key words and phrases: традиционные диалекты, массовые диалекты, акцент, национальная лингвистическая география, социальная диалектолизация, вариативность, traditional dialects, mass dialects, accent, national linguistic geography, social dialectization, variation
