Submitted: 20.07.2018
Abstract. The article is devoted to investigating the moral aspects of the pupil’s personality formation in the process of studying the romantic elegy. The paper analyzes the elegy "The Sea" by V. A. Zhukovsky. Its genre peculiarity is examined and the central image of the work is interpreted as the expression of the value and limitlessness of the person’s spiritual life, his/her impulse to freedom. Some features of elegiac poetry by V. A. Zhukovsky, necessary for the comparative analysis with the poetry by A. S. Pushkin and F. I. Tyutchev, are defined. The author reveals common ideological principles that give rise to objective, as to their philosophical and aesthetic content, associations with the individual’s lack of social and spiritual freedom. It is ascertained that following moral principles and attitudes is a necessary condition for creating an individual and author’s worldview, preaching the moral and ethical principles of being.
