Abstract. The article examines the colouristic peculiarities of F. M. Dostoevsky’s, A. P. Platonov’s, I. S. Shmelyov’s fiction in the context of the animated versions created by the director A. K. Petrov. The paper reveals the relation between the chromatic markers of the original text and their subsequent visualization, identifies the basic means of colour reproduction. The author analyses semantically complicated colour symbolism of the animated versions of classical literary works, which establishes hyper-textual relations both with the original works and with the general cultural and historical context. The researcher considers the psychological peculiarities of the recipient’s perception of colour, light and tonal relations. By the example of the animated cartoons "The Dream of a Ridiculous Man", "The Cow" and "My Love" the author examines colour symbolism as one of the basic peculiarities of the literary work visualization, which is a necessary element to compress the verbal information of the visualized text.
