Abstract. The article is devoted to the consideration of the narrative strategy as a way of expressing national consciousness in the novel by the Japanese-American writer J. Otsuka "The Buddha in the Attic". The story is on behalf of "we" and expresses the horizons of the first Japanese migrants, who came to America in the 1910-1920s. The features of the composition-speech organization of the text, the correlation of points of view within collective "we", the interaction of narrative chronotopes, the role of the principle of listing are revealed. It is proved that the first-person plural narrative, firstly, is conditioned by a number of the essential features of the mentality and psychology of the Japanese, secondly, it makes it possible to present fully the fate of the whole generation of the Japanese migrants.
