Abstract. The article deals with the use of the traditions of the ancient Russian solemn eloquence in the language of the XX-century tales. Here the epidictic heritage acquires new features and harmoniously represents the language realias of the new century. The synonymous use of epidictic canons in the text of a literary work is analyzed: compositional and linguistic means, stylistic arrangement, and emotional orientation.
