Abstract. The article examines the role of intertext in the expressive structures of literary text. It is shown that reinforcement of evaluative-emotional meanings of a statement is achieved by using intertext. The author analyzes the expressive function of intertext in landscape descriptions of modern British detective stories by the example of P. Robinson’s novels. The research findings indicate that the effect of reinforcing the expressive structure of literary text can be achieved by non-traditional interpretation of precedent text.
