THE NOTION "FANTASTIC" AS AN OBJECT OF SCIENTIFIC REFLECTION

Abstract. The article sets the task to analyze and generalize typologically the definition of "fantastic" as a category of the poetics of a work of art created by Russian and foreign literary critics of the XIX - the beginning of the XXI century. There are three groups of interpretations of this phenomenon: narrow semantic "twilight", polysemantic "literalized" and chaos-conceptual "syncretic". It is ascertained that the key condition in the development of the definition of "fantastic" should be the goal-setting factor of the writer’s introduction of "irreal" in the literary fabric of the work. The author proposes her own definition of the notions "fantasy" and "fantastic".
