Abstract. The article provides the dictemic analysis of the most significant fragments of the catholic priest’s represented inner speech in G. Greene’s novel "The Power and the Glory" and identifies the key role of syntactical expressive means, which personify the main character’s image and are stylistic markers in the arrangement of inner speech. The personage himself is considered as a philological category that allows the researcher to provide a detailed description of this phenomenon. The priest’s professional speech is presented and analyzed within the framework of self-communication. Special attention is paid to such genres of inner speech as the padre’s self-confession and prayer about soul salvation and eternal life.
