Abstract. The article examines the genesis of Koryak literature in the context of the national literatures of the Northern and Siberian indigenous peoples. The story of the first Koryak writer Ketsai Kekketyn "Evnyto-Herdsman" is for the first time analyzed in the context of the USSR social policy of the 1930s. The authors analyze in detail the original Koryak version and comment on all the existing translations. The findings lead to the conclusion that a shift of ideological accents occurred and Ketsai Kekketyn’s original artistic intention was distorted.
