Abstract. The article analyzes Russian and German phraseological units with the somatic component "heart" in the comparative aspect. The analysis is based on the structural-semantic classification of the phraseological units. The paper focuses on developing the thematic classification of the linguistic units under study. The authors’ classification, developed taking into account the discovered semantic characteristics, identifies the groups of the phraseological units characterizing a human’s emotional state, features of character and social behaviour.
