Abstract. The article examines the category of mood in the Kadar language, one of the unwritten Dargin languages spoken in Dagestan. Special attention is paid to the formation and functioning of indirect moods in this language. The authors identify nine verbal forms with modal meanings, analyse the formation of these moods, and describe the semantic meanings. The peculiarities of the mood category functioning in the Kadar language in comparison with the Akushi and other Dargin languages are identified. In particular, it is shown that the Kadar language has fewer modal verb forms comparing to other Dargin languages.
