MEANS TO REPLENISH THE ENGLISH GLUTTONIC VOCABULARY IN THE XX CENTURY

Abstract. The article analyses the means to replenish the English "gastronomic" vocabulary in the XX century and linguo-culturological factors contributing to this process. It is shown that the modern English gluttonic vocabulary is a substantial stratum of vocabulary, which is constantly replenished. This process is mostly implemented by word-formative means, in particular stem composition, i.e. internal resources of the English language. Borrowing of gluttonic vocabulary occurs fragmentarily and does not play a dominant role in its replenishment.
Key words and phrases: пополнение словаря, гастрономическая лексика, способы словообразования, словосложение, гастрономическая метафора, vocabulary replenishing, gastronomic vocabulary, word-formative means, stem composition, gastronomic metaphor
