Abstract. The hydronym "Bargyushad" is analysed in the historical and linguistic aspect. It is shown that it traces its origin to the word "baiyrku", the name of the ancient Turkic tribe. The ethnonym "baiyrku" mentioned in the written monuments and preserved in the toponyms of the all-Turkic areal is identifiable in Azerbaijan. "Bargyushad" is a variant of the word "baiyrku" exposed to phonetic transformation. The analysis of this hydronym justifies historians’ conclusions on strong inter-language influences in the regional all-Turkic areal.
