Abstract. The article is devoted to analysing a multimodal metaphor functioning in the Internet memes. The originality of the study lies in the fact that a multimodal metaphor is for the first time examined in the context of poorly investigated discursive space of the English Internet meme. The functioning of a multimodal metaphor in the English Internet memes is examined in the cognitive and pragmatic aspects. The findings indicate that in memes, a multimodal metaphor is formed by metaphorical projection of the structure "goal" and the structure "source".
