Abstract. Using the cognitive approach, the authors analyse and systematize medical terms of the subject area CYTOLOGIE (CYTOLOGY). The study is conducted by the material of the French language. Medical terms are considered as a result of categorization and conceptualization of special knowledge possessing integrative features conditioned by interrelation with general scientific, professional and everyday cognition of the surrounding reality. The emphasis is made on resemblance of colloquial and scientific styles in the modern medical terminological system.
